The Community Chaplain is building a team to work with the Board of Caring and Sharing to develop new ways of assisting individuals and families in South Walton to transition out of poverty permanently.
One of the first steps is to educate the larger community about the complex causes of poverty and solutions that break, rather than continue the cycle of poverty. We are encouraging folks to read or, better yet, facilitate a book study of either When Helping Hurts in Church Benevolence by Steve Corbett and Brian Fikkert or Toxic Charity by Robert Lupton. One poverty transformation program we are exploring is called Communities of Transformation, which you can learn more about here.

Please pray for the Chaplain in her ministry to make pastoral care and information about and connection to community and faith-based resources more accessible to those who live, work, or vacation in south Walton County.
Please pray for all those who are in need in our community–who work the service industry and struggle to make ends meet, who are new to the area and trying to find community or discern their vocation, or who are experiencing a time of crisis or transition in their lives and in need of more support. Pray that they might find the help they need, and that all of us in this area might come together to find new ways to be that help or to make it more accessible.
